EARLY YEARS - FOUNDATION DEGREE Health & Social Care : Higher Education Introduction The Early Years sector is being recognised for the professional and essential role that it plays in the development and education of young children. The new level of professional practice in Early Years, the Senior Practitioner, can be gained via the study and completion of a Foundation Degree in Early Years. This is a sector endorsed syllabus that can be studied part-time and provides a route to further teacher training (following appropriate bridging, where necessary) for those who wish to gain Qualified Teacher Status. Content may typically include: Developing your role as a senior practitioner Observing and assessing children Child development from birth to 5 years Early Years Curriculum The foundation stage of literacy and numeracy Growth and development of the enquiring child The effective senior practitioner The developing child Safeguarding children Inclusion Working with multidisciplinary teams Partnership with parents Assessment is by assignments, and work based projects. Employment Progression The Foundation Degree is a recognised qualification in its own right and it offers a number of progression opportunities e.g.:- Related ordinary and honours degree, followed by post graduate ITT, or a Graduate Teacher Programme A two year employment-based programme of ITT leading to an ordinary or honours degree and QTS. UCAS Code: TBC Duration: 2 years Location: High Wycombe Fees: 1025 for 2009-10 Entry Requirements: You must be a current practitioner in an early years setting, probably with at least three years experience in the early years environment. Practical experience may be undertaken as employed work or for a registered charity (voluntary work). You must hold recognised qualifications at NVQ Level 3 or other appropriate Level 3 qualifications such as CACHE Diplomas in Childcare and Education, Pre-School Practice and Childminding Practice, BTEC National Diploma Early Years or NVQ Advanced Diploma in Childcare and Education. If you have credits at NVQ Level 4, Advanced Diploma in Childcare and Education or equivalent learning in early years settings, you may be offered APL credits.
