Construction Course: Diploma in Paint and Decorating Level 3 Code: CON0075P Duration: 33 Weeks Location: Ashington Main Campus Start Date: 17th September 2009 Interview Required: Yes Who is the course for? For people who have achieved an ICA (Intermediate Construction Award) qualification but wish to further develop their skills & knowledge via more complex training activities. Do I need any formal qualifications? Yes, a Diploma Level 2 qualification within the same trade area. You will be required to attend an informal interview with the course team leader. What will I study on the course? Health & safety, setting up work stations, organising resources, apply paint to complex surfaces, apply wallpaper to complex areas, produce advanced specialist finishes. CC1001K: Know how to carry out safe working practices in construction, CC1001S: Carry out safe working practices in construction, CC3002K: Knowledge of information, quantities and communicating with others, CC3002S: Information, quantities and communicating with others, CC3003K: Knowledge of building methods and construction technology, CC3003S: Building methods anad construction technology, CC2024: Know how to erect and dismantle access equipment and working platforms, CC2024S: Erect and dismantle access equipment and working platforms, CC3014K: Know how to apply paint systems by brush and roller, CC3014S: Apply paint systems by brush and roller, CC3015K: Know how to apply hangings to walls and ceilings, CC3015S: Apply hangings to walls and ceilings, CC3016K: Know how to produce specialist decorative finishes, CC3016S: Produce specialist decorative finishes, CC3017: Know how to carry out specialist architectural feature work, CC3017S: Carry out specialist and architectural work, CC3018K: Know how to apply water-borne paint systems using airless equipment, CC3018S: Apply water-borne paint systems using airless equipment, CC3050K: Know how to prepare surfaces for decoration, CC3050S: Prepare surfaces for decoration. Section 3: A synoptic practical assignment: Instructions for learners, Guidance for trainers. How is the course organised? The main enrolment period is in September, but there may be opportunities to enter the course at other times subject to availability. The course runs on a day release basis (9.00am - 4.30pm) for 1 year. How will my progress be assessed? Via both written & practical tests in college & an externally set & marked end test. Can I gain any extra qualifications while on the course? Yes, you could gain key skills qualifications in Application of Number & Communication. Also depending upon your circumstances you could enrol onto one of our many part time courses. What final qualification will I get if I am successful? Diploma in Painting and Decorating Level 3 What can I do after completing this course? Self employment, an NVQ Level 3 in the same trade area (you must have gained employment to pursue this option), a National Certificate in Construction or a National Diploma in Construction. Can I receive any financial support whilst I am studying? Financial support is available and depends on the type of qualification you are studying and whether you are a full time or a part time learner. The Education Maintainance Allowance (EMA) scheme enables eligible learners to receive up to ?30 per week for studying at College, as well as bonus payments of ?100. The Adult Learning Grant (ALG) scheme enables eligible learners (aged 19 or over) to receive up to ?30 per week for studying at College. College Learner Support Funds (LSF) are available and can provide financial support for eligible learners. Payments can be made towards travel to and from College, registered childcare, fee remission and help with course-related costs.
