Course Description

MBA (Executive) 2 years part-time - January 2010 start Introduction The Executive MBA programme is specifically designed to suit current working middle / senior managers in strategic decision-making roles, who want to enhance their career prospects and develop their strategic skills. Content and Structure All our students are current working managers, often facing the time constraints that family and working life make on learning and development. With this in mind we've tried to make the course as efficient as possible, and draw on students' valuable experience to try and ensure that course learning has an immediate impact. The mix of business and academic experience of our lecturers is of particular relevance in achieving this. We place particular emphasis during the course on: immediate contribution to the workplace interaction and peer-learning maintaining momentum through our virtual learning environment applicability across both public, private and third sectors Students undertake 5 core modules of 20 credits each, 3 selected additional modules of 10 credits each, and 2 core components based around a major Consultancy Project (50 credits). Strategic Management (20 credits) Knowledge Management (10 credits) Financial Management (20 credits) Entrepreneurship & Innovation ( 10 credits) Leadership & Management (20 credits) Strategic Marketing (10 credits) Risk & Responsibility (20 credits) Methods of Enquiry (10 credits) Critical Perspectives on Management (20 credits) Business & Management Consultancy (40 credits) Module Assessment Assessments will take a number of forms including reports, group and individual presentations, case studies, Blackboard exercises, personal journals and a consultancy report - largely focused where possible on the student's existing workplace. Entry Requirements Applicants should have a good honours degree and be able to demonstrate experience in a strategic decision-making role in an organisation for at least two years with team and budget responsibilities. Where an applicant has significant business experience, the degree requirement may be waived subject to attending a short pre-Master's course or providing evidence of appropriate academic skills as agreed with the Programme Director.
