Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery Level 1 Who is the course for? This course will apply to candidates who wish to follow a career in Wood Occupations. The College's Construction Centre is a dedicated facility for construction craft in wood occupations and bricklaying, with workshops that are well-equipped with a huge range of carpentry and bricklaying tools. Excellent computer facilities enhance the workshops and provide a link between practical and knowledge aspects of the course. What will I study on the course? The course is split into units, three core and three carpentry trade; you will achieve a Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery. What is special about studying at Bridgwater College? The Bridgwater College Construction Centre is a dedicated facility for Construction Craft in Wood Occupations and bricklaying with workshops which are well equipped with a huge range of carpentry and bricklaying tools. Well appointed classrooms and computer facilities enhance the workshops and provide a link between practical and knowledge aspects of the course. What makes this course special? The range of work you will cover includes: Timber technology Basic hand tool skills Power tool skills Basic woodworking joints Timber Ironmongery Understanding access equipment Health and safety Handling equipment and materials. How will I be assessed? Carpentry practical course work will be marked through set practical tasks. Underpinning knowledge is assessed via internally sat test papers; however there will be a need to complete a multiple choice test that is externally set by the Construction Industry Training Board - City & Guilds. How long is the course? This is a one year long programme which may lead to a second year in Bench Joinery. What can I do on completion of this course? You could progress on to a full-time course in Bench Joinery.
