Course Description

Outcome: A STCW ?95 OOW (Officer Of The Watch Certificate of Competency) and Foundation Degree. Minimum Entry Requirements: 120 UCAS points in unspecified subjects. In addition, all universities and individual companies are likely to impose their own requirements in an effort to ensure selected candidates have sufficient prior knowledge and ability to cope with the technical aspects of the academic study involved. This will often involve a minimum level of attainment in Maths and/or physics. Framework: 5 alternating sea and college phases as per the outline below. Sea Service Requirement: 12 months minimum (however, the majority of candidates are likely to complete at least 15 months before completing all the work based learning and other training requirements). Watchkeeping Service: 6 months minimum completed within the last 12 months of sea service. College Time: 63 weeks, excluding college holidays and optional elements. Total Time: 3 years, 10 months, to first certificate (based on 15 months sea service). College: Offered by a range of Higher Education Training establishments and Universities. Leave: Included with the sea periods. Start Dates: September, January and April/May each year. Associated Training Record Book : MNTB deck training record book.
