Course Description

This programme is for people who work in volatile environments and need to learn effective techniques of calming and negotiation. This is the process which should always precede any physical coping strategies such as control and restraint. The emphasis here is on learning by doing. GOALS - by the end of the course the participants will: Have developed new perspectives around their personal triggers. Have developed an understanding of conflict as a cognitive behavioural process . Have practised (through role-play, discussion, group-work, etc) succesful de-escalation techniques. The Learning Components: Legal and litigation issues Personal Safety Transactional Analysis and your usual position in conflict situations The Calm Persona The Empathic Communicator The Assault Cycle The Four Rules of De-escalation Causes of Conflict - triggers, patterns The Conflict Process - Chains of Conflict (deconstruction and misconstruction) Alternatives to the Chain of Conflict (reconstruction) Perspectives and truth The assertive negotiator A support network and how to use it DFW 07b includes a one day module training trainers to deliver the De-escalation programme.
