Course Description

The DBA is a part-time, research-based degree, but unlike the PhD, the starting point is a practical business issue for the candidate. Ideally, the outcome of the research is a deeper knowledge of the issue's causes, consequences and possible remedies. The study may also contribute to academic knowledge of management. Drawing on Programme concepts, theories and methods, the candidates? analysis is intended to enhance their professional practice and improve the quality of action in their place of employment. The DBA should provide direct and significant benefits to employers with the impact on practice as a key driver. For example, project results (i.e. research report, doctoral thesis, etc.) may be used to inform real organisational change and development. Thus, the DBA will focus more on ?practitioner? as opposed to purely ?disciplinary? knowledge and is context dependent, transdisciplinary and based on problem solving. Consequently, the knowledge emerging from DBA normally has practical application. Programme aims: ???.. the creation and interpretation of new knowledge through original research of quality to satisfy peer review, extend the forefront of the discipline and merit publication? (QAA Frameworks). to develop highly competent business researchers capable of undertaking successful doctoral level study within organisations and outside academia. to provide advanced training in research methods and underlying cognate concepts for application in the broad fields of management and business. to equip participants with the capability to critique existing knowledge, to collect and analyse data and to appraise the underlying philosophical, conceptual rationales to enable a contribution to professional practice ? the so called ?reflective practitioner?. Programme Subject to Approval. This programme is in development. For up-to-date information, please check the website regularly.
