Course Description

Course review : To provide an overview of employment law, particularly as it affects recruitment and disciplinary procedures; To provide a knowledge of health & safety legislation as it affects the haulage industry; A detailed study of drivers hours legislation, EC Regulation 561/2006 and EC 3821/85 as amended and the Road Transport Working Time regulations; To provide sufficient information that course participants are aware of the requirements of the Road Traffic Act 1988 as it affects driver licensing and are then able to set up and maintain a licence checking regime that meets VOSA requirements; To consider Construction & Use requirements as to vehicles and their loads to the extent that participants will recognise their legal obligations for these and be able to advise drivers; To review the requirements of Operator Licensing particularly in respect of changes, additional vehicles and the role of the Traffic Commissioner; To know the powers of various enforcement agencies; To know the basic requirements regarding vehicle dimensions, weight and lighting; To provide an opportunity for a Highway Code and general traffic law refresher and to know and understand the duties of the driver in an accident
