Counselling Diploma (Graduate Diploma in Counselling) Level 6 (Manchester Metropolitan University) WHAT'S ON THE COURSE? This is the second part of a three year professional training course designed for those who wish to pursue a career in counselling or who wish to enhance their counselling ability for use within existing or future employment. The theoretical orientation of the course is Person-Centred (Rogerian). The Graduate Diploma in Counselling is validated by the Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) and is made up of the following modules: 001 - Making Sense of the Counselling Process 002 - Developing a Critical Appreciation of Person-Centred Counselling 003 - Developing an Understanding of Pertinent Issues Involving Loss 004 - Personal and Professional Development 005 - Developing as a Reflexive Practitioner 006 - Counselling Practice A module consists of Group Time, Integrated Theory & Skills, Self-directed Learning, Supervision & Personal Development Groupwork. Assessment is based on written assignments, video work, audio work, 120 hours of supervised counselling practice and a reflexive practitioner journal. There are two weekend residentials that all students must attend. The course contact hours may, at BACP's discretion (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), be counted towards meeting part of criterion 4 of the BACP CounsellorPsychotherapist Accreditation scheme. Candidates for accreditation must note that they will also have to meet all other criteria. It is a course with an excellent reputation, and one which demands high standards of professionalism from its trainee counsellors. It is an NVQ Level 4 equivalent course. WHAT'S THE SCHEDULE AND FEES? HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE? 2 Years. Thursday 1.00pm-8.00pm. WHEN DOES IT START? Autumn 2012. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? The tuition fee for this course is 1,285.00 per annum (home students only). Additional costs: Residential fee approximately 100. Applications are especially welcome from minority groups (Ethnic minorities, gays, lesbians etc.). WHAT CAN I DO NEXT? Progression is onto an MA in Counselling Studies programme or further Professional Development.
