Course Description

Is this course for me? This course suits those already working in the construction industry and who want to extend their knowledge to a higher technical level. What will I study? This course explores construction technology, design, management, services, maintenance, surveying, law and economics. Subjects: Assessment and management of risk Building conversion and adaptation Building design and maintenance studies Building law and contract administration Computer aided design (CAD) Construction technology and environmental design Construction technology and materials Group project Management principles Project evaluation and design What can I do next? This can lead to a part-time degree one day a week for three years or a Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) course. This can lead to employment in: Building surveying Quantity surveying Building control Building management Architecture What are the entry requirements? You will need to have successfully completed either the BTEC National Certificate in Building Studies, the GNVQ Advanced in Construction and Built Environment, A-levels, or a degree (any subject) plus year two of the BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in Building Studies. Other qualifications and experience may also be considered. How will I be assessed? Assessment is by coursework and examination. Students also meet regularly with tutors to help plan studies and to discuss progress. What will it cost? If you are under 19 and a home student, in most circumstances, you don't pay any fees. However, you will need to find this out when you apply. Course fee: ?715 Exam fee: ?175 Please note: For courses of more than one year, the fees stated apply to the first year of the 2009/2010 academic year only.
