Foundation Degree Complementary Medicine (subject to validation) Course Overview Due to changes in government policy and the NHS, the use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine has become better recognised and its use has become more widespread across the population. Complementary or Holistic therapists gain employment internationally utilising their practical, consultation and advisory skills within a variety of settings. Within the NHS therapists work in hospitals, GP practices and community centres. Many also work within health spas, private clinics or become self-employed. The programme is suitable for anyone with an interest in the Health sector. Whether they are already working within the NHS as a health trainer, nurse or physiotherapy assistant, are working within the sports and rehabilitation industry, have completed NVQs in holistics and beauty or want a complete change in career. This programme of study covers all aspects of the multifaceted role of a Complementary Medicine practitioner from communication skills, practical massage, practice management and reflection on the treatment of real case study clients to enable immediate employment on completion of the course. What will I study? The programme includes practical modules such as Aromatherapy, Reflexology and Holistic Massage, Hydrotherapy and Sports and Remedial Massage which lead to additional diplomas from external governing bodies as well as key units such as, Human Physiology and Nutrition. Students will also be able to access National Forums, Special Interest Groups (SIGS) and receive guest lectures from experts in fields such as Ecotherapy, Breathworks, Mindfulness, Acupuncture, Hypnotherapy, Stress Management, Homeopathy, Aromatherapy in Pregnancy & Childbirth and Colour Therapy. Educational visits such as retreat centres in Crete and Aromatherapy Farms in Avignon are planned to enhance the student experience. In addition, students can gain First Aid at Work and Health & Safety certification. Industrial links are established and encouraged through work based learning as well as practical sessions in the 'Academy', the in-college clinic. Other industry recognised qualifications are also offered such as, Indian Head Massage, Thermal Auricular Therapy and Hot Stones Therapy, subject to an additional charge. Modules can include Year 1: Reflexology Aromatherapy Holistic Massage & Hydrotherapy Human Physiology and Nutrition 1 Human Physiology and Nutrition 2 Inegrated Health Evidence Based Practice 1 Personal Development Planning Year 2: Clinical Reflexology Clinical Aromatherapy Sports and Remedial Massage Pathophysiology 1 Pathophysiology 2 Practice Management 2 Evidence Based Practice 2 Work Based Learning Course Requirements Science based Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education, or A Level (40 points) minimum E grade.
