Course Description

Content Social Inclusion is a key feature of Valuing People Now and other recent Government polices, it is central to enabling people to achieve a better quality of life and reduce stigma and discrimination. This event will explore how this can be achieved for people with learning disabilities and how person centred thinking can be linked to community development approaches to support this. The day will look at: ? Using person centred thinking to support individuals to realise their dreams and aspirations ? How to develop community profiles and understanding communities ? Strategies for community engagement and capacity building ? Tools for community capacity building ? including ?Open Space? ? Practical examples of how to deliver change and who needs to be involved By the end of the day, participants will understand how to use person centred thinking and community development approaches to build social inclusion for local people. Who for People with learning disabilities and their supporters, family carers, commissioners, practitioners (health and social care), community development workers and support staff.
