This unique centrally provided workshop is a one-day workshop providing optimal learning conditions for the delegate. It enables Primary Care Trust (PCT) staff to develop knowledge and understanding of the clinical coding function and its relationship with Healthcare Resource Groups (HRGs) . Learning outcomes: Understand the role of the NHS Classifications Service within the National Programme and its products. Understand the relationship between HRGs and the ICD-10 and OPCS-4 Classifications. Understand the importance of data quality and how it impacts on HRGs and PbR. Understand the relationship between classifications (ICD-10OPCS-4) and terminologies. Understand the differences between clinical and administrative codes Understand the key processes involved in clinical coding Data collection Information flows Source documentation(Data abstraction, Four Step Coding Process, Uses of coded data, Background to clinical coding, Primary Diagnosis Definition Main Procedure Selection, Sequencing rules). Understand the role of clinical coding audit. Understand the importance of clinical coding training. Ability to interpret the data they receive from their suppliers more equitably. Accurately identify and assign the correct primary diagnosis and co-morbidities. Accurately identify and assign the correct primary and secondary procedures.
