Course Description

We are applying the successful principles of the Clinical Coding Training Programme to align this with the training programme to ensure coding auditors have the key skills they need. This rationalisation of the two programmes will benefit both the attendees and their supporting organisations, maintain the highest standard of skilled staff and ultimately further improve national coding standards. Learning outcomes: At the end of this course delegates will be able to: Understand the background and the benefits of using clinical coding audit as part of an objective appraisal. Understand the quality criteria of data: accuracy, consistency, completeness timeliness, and how this supports Payment by Results. Understand and apply the principles of clinical coding audit. Understand the need to comply with the clinical coding auditors' code of practice. Fraud awareness Understand the need for regular monitoring and development of audit skills. Correctly undertake all tasks involved in clinical coding audit in accordance with the standard clinical coding audit methodology . Accurately identify potential sources of error in coded clinical data and understand the difference between a coding error and a judgmental assignment. Provide a breakdown and analysis of any errors or areas of concern found. Accurately draw conclusions based on the findings of an audit and make appropriate recommendations to enable confidence in the coded clinical information. Present the clinical coding audit report in a professional format. Delegates are tested throughout the workshop by a series of marked assessments (MAs). If they are successful in passing the workshop, their name is added to the list of Registered Clinical Coding Auditors on the NHS Benefits to the delegate and employer: Provision of an optimal learning environment Understanding the role and importance of clinical coding audit within their working environment and in particular impact on Payment by Results If successful, added to the list of registered clinical coding auditors and able to undertake clinical coding audit. Receive instruction compliant with current national standards Provision of national standard training materials Access to a highly experienced and skilled Approved Clinical Coding Trainer (regularly assessed to ensure continued high quality delivery) Opportunity to network with auditors from other organisations.
