Course Description

This is a Full Time 1 Year course which has been designed to equip individuals and develop knowledge, understanding and practical skills. A variety of learning activities are used which include student centred activities, course studies, practical exercise, assignments and creative activities Entry Requirements No formal qualifications are required. Course Content The Preparing for Work in the Care Sector Course is made up of 8 units:- Develop your own Learning in Preparation for Work in the Care Sector This unit allows students to examine what they need to learn, and look at strategies that will help them become effective learners. Introduction to the Care Sector This unit introduces the different groups of people who may need the services of a care sector. It also outlines some of the types of organisations and different job roles which are open to people working in care. Communication and Working with others This unit provides the knowledge and understanding of the different forms of communication used to allow people to work effectively with others. Supporting a Health Lifestyle for yourself and others This unit will equip students with the undertanding about things that contribute to a healthy lifestyle. Introduction to Health and Safety in a Care Setting This unit provides the knowledge and understanding of the importance of health and safety. Students will also be able to identify risks to health and safety and to know what to do in the event of an emergency. Care of Older People This unit enables students to identify the range of services available to older people in the community. It also provides them with knowledge and understanding of some of the common health problems experienced by older people, how a carer can support the clients needs and independence. Drug Awareness Certificate This gives students a basic understanding of drugs and their effects on individuals. In addition to the above units students also study common skills and key skills which comprise of:-?Basic Literacy Skills?Basic Numeracy Skills?Working with others?Problem Solving Skills?Improving own Learning and Performance. How will I be assessed? This course is examined through continual assessment of portfolio of evidence and written assignments. On completion, students will receive a City & Guilds qualification at entry level three on the National qualifications framework. What can I do next? Students can progress onto the BTEC Introductory Diploma in Health & Social Care. Apprenticeship scheme or Cadetship in care. Additional costs Please enquire
