Construction Course: CITB Trowel Occupations Level 3 Programme Code: CON0098P Duration: 33 Weeks Location: Berwick Construction Site Start Date: 14th September 2009 Interview Required: Yes Who is the course for? This course is for anyone who is employed in the Bricklaying Industry and has completed an NVQ Level 2, who wishes to develop their skills further. Do I need any formal qualifications? You will need to have NVQ Level 2 or City and Guilds Craft Certificate or similar. What will I study on the course? NVQ Level 3 consists of the following units: Contribute to establishing the operational area, Contribute to the progress of operations, Assist with the organisation of resources, Co-ordinate self and others to erect complex masonry structures, Co-ordinate self and others to carry out complex masonry details. Additional Units: Co-ordinate self and others to restore and conserve masonry structures, Co-ordinate and produce complex components to aid construction, Co-ordinate and evaluate surface format and condition, Co-ordinate, repair, maintain and conserve vernacular walling. How is the course organised? You will need to come to College for 1 year, attending 1 day per week. A large proportion of the time on this programme will be spent in the Brickwork workshop. You must also have a period of work placement of a minimum 10 weeks, to achieve your Level 3. How will my progress be assessed? This will take place at the College, however some practical competences may be assessed at the workplace. Simulated practical projects are used and a final written assessment. Can I gain any extra qualifications while on the course? Yes, you can study from a range of NVQ units. You could also gain a key skills certificate in numeracy, communication and information technology. What final qualification will I get if I am successful? NVQ Level 3 in Trowel Occupations. What can I do after completing this course? You could progress in employment or consider further study onto a National Certificate in Construction. Can I receive any financial support whilst I am studying? Financial support is available and depends on the type of qualification you are studying and whether you are a full time or a part time learner. The Education Maintainance Allowance (EMA) scheme enables eligible learners to receive up to ?30 per week for studying at College, as well as bonus payments of ?100. The Adult Learning Grant (ALG) scheme enables eligible learners (aged 19 or over) to receive up to ?30 per week for studying at College. College Learner Support Funds (LSF) are available and can provide financial support for eligible learners. Payments can be made towards travel to and from College, registered childcare, fee remission and help with course-related costs.
