Course Description

This course is appropriate for those who wish to pursue a career in EducationCare in a variety of settings working with children aged 0-16. A successful student will be able to work unsupervised or in a supervisory role in a variety of settings e.g. Childminding, Nursery, School, Residential care Home, Childrens Day Centre, Special Needs Setting Entry Requirements In order to undergo the Award a student MUST be in a Supervisory Role within an EducationalCare setting either voluntary or paid. The student should be able to: ?Take on sole responsibilty for groups of children ?Work under own initiative ?Take an active role in planning for childrens learning Basic Literacy and Numeracy skills are desirable however additional support may be offered to support students. Course Content There are 5 mandatory units and 4 optional units making 9 units in total. Each unit is designed to reflect the skills and knowledge that is required to work with children. These include: ?Developing positive relationships ?Create a Health, Safe & Secure Environment. ?Reflect and develop practice ?Child Development ?Plan, Implement and evaluate activities based on relevant curriculem guidance. How will I be assessed? National Vocational Qualifications are assessed in the work place by an assessor provided by the College. A minimum of 8 hours a week must be spent in a childcare setting. Three hours underpinning knowledge in college per week for two years. Students will produce a portfolio of evidence for assessment Each successful student completing all required units will receive certification. What can I do next? Following the successful completion of the award you may choose to progress onto the following NVQ Childrens Care, Learning & Development Level 4.
