BPS573 : Childcare Learning and Development NVQ2 11th Jan 2010 to 1st Aug 2010 Location: Brockenhurst College - Main Site Duration: 25 Weeks Days: Monday Times: 09:30-12:30 Fees: ?550.00 Course description: If you are working with children under 16 years your competence may not have been recognised if you have not attended any courses or acquired any qualifications. An NVQ is a national Vocational Qualification which will give you the opportunity to gain recognition for the work you are already doing on a voluntary basis. You will need to attend a College interview for initial guidance and information exchange to determine if this is the right programme for you and to choose the level that would suit you best. The Level 2 CCLD can be the first step on your career path. It comes with support and supervision. You can use it to work as: a nursery assistant a cr?che worker - eg in a gym or a large retail store a special needs assistant Course content: You will show competence and underpinning knowledge of Mandatory units and Optional units, and will be given guidance and support in creating a portfolio of evidence. Areas within the programme include development of physical, social, emotional, language and communication, and intellectual skills relationship with parents health and safety issues. The content of these areas differ, depending on which level of NVQ is being undertaken. You will attend College on a regular basis and work a minimum of 9 hours a week as an employee or volunteer in a work setting. Depending on motivation and experience we will support you for up to 18 months for a level 2. Funding may be available from your Early Years Development and Child Care Partnership, so check with your workplace for application forms. Teaching methods: This is a nationally recognised qualification for assistants - eg day nurseries, pre-schools, after school clubs, holiday clubs, nursery schools and classes, classrooms, opportunity groups. It is strongly recommended that staff have a minimum of level 2 if working with children under 16 years. On completion of level 2 you may progress to level 3 if working at a higher level. Course assessment: You will complete an Individual Learning Plan with your assessor and set a target date to complete individual units and the whole NVQ within the year. There is no examination, and assessment of competence is carried out in the workplace through observation of your performance by a qualified Assessor, who has the relevant experience and knowledge of children's care, learning and development. Professional discussions will be used to provide knowledge and understanding. The qualification comprises of 6 mandatory units and 1 optional unit. You will be given guidance and support in building a portfolio to show knowledge across the age range by experienced tutors, and this will also be assessed by your Assessor. Progression opportunities: On completion of this course you may consider progression to Level 3, and then onto NVQ 4 or a Foundation Degree.
