Engineering and motor engineering Course: Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Light Vehicle) Level 3 Code: ENG0028P Duration: 35 Weeks Location: Ashington Main Campus Start Date: 14th September 2009 Interview Required: Yes Who is the course for? This course is aimed at all candidates who wish to study for the Technical Certificate (VRQ) only. Do I need any formal qualifications? Yes, those courses which meet the entry requirements are: City & Guilds 4101 Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance Level 2 (VRQ) OR in the opinion of the course team leader, those candidates who have had sufficient practical experience to enable them to complete the qualification. What will I study on the course? The units are: Contributing to workplace good housekeeping, Ensuring your own actions reduce risks to health and safety, Maintaining positive working relationships, Diagnose & rectify Engine system and component faults, Diagnose & rectify Chassis systems and component faults, Diagnose & rectify Auxiliary equipment electrical faults, One further optional unit. How is the course organised? The VRQ course is delivered at the Ashington campus on a part-time basis for 1 day per week for 35 weeks. The course units will be delivered through both classroom theory and workshop practical sessions. How will my progress be assessed? Progress will be assessed via: VRQ, a number of practical tasks in the college workshop, witness testimony, verbal questioning of essential knowledge. In addition, underpinning knowledge will be assessed via a number of City & Guilds GOLA multiple choice on-line assessments. Can I gain any extra qualifications while on the course? No. What final qualification will I get if I am successful? City & Guilds 4101 Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Level 3 VRQ. What can I do after completing this course? Students will be able to progress to a range of further education and professional body awards. For example: City & Guilds level 4 Automotive qualifications and equivalents offered by other awarding bodies. Institute of Leadership & Management Level 3 Supervisor, or Level 4 Management Qualifications. Professional institution membership (IMI). Can I receive any financial support whilst I am studying? Financial support is available and depends on the type of qualification you are studying and whether you are a full time or a part time learner. The Education Maintainance Allowance (EMA) scheme enables eligible learners to receive up to ?30 per week for studying at College, as well as bonus payments of ?100. The Adult Learning Grant (ALG) scheme enables eligible learners (aged 19 or over) to receive up to ?30 per week for studying at College. College Learner Support Funds (LSF) are available and can provide financial support for eligible learners. Payments can be made towards travel to and from College, registered childcare, fee remission and help with course-related costs.
