Foundation learning Course: Certificate in Self Development Through Learning Level 1 Code: LDD0042P Duration: 14 Weeks Location: Ashington Main Campus Start Date: 14th September 2009 Interview Required: No Who is the course for? This course is designed for young people aged 16-20 who, for a number of reasons, have not achieved the qualifications they need to move on to a Level 1 or Level 2 vocational qualifications or employment. Do I need any formal qualifications? No What will I study on the course? Students will get the chance to take part in a wide range of physical and practical activities as part of the following subjects: Personal Development, Healthy Living, Working with Others, Problem Solving, Budgeting, Using Different Media and Contributing to the Community. How is the course organised? The course is run over 14 weeks with students attending 3 days per week. How will my progress be assessed? Your progress will be assessed throughout the 14 weeks by your tutor and you will build a portfolio of evidence that will be internally marked and externally verified. Can I gain any extra qualifications while on the course? There may be opportunities for you to study other qualifications and this will be discussed with your tutor at interview. What final qualification will I get if I am successful? City and Guilds Certificate in Self Development Through Learning Level 1. What can I do after completing this course? At the end of the course students will be able to progress on to the ASDAN Employability Qualification, various other courses within the college including NVQ qualifications, or into Work Based Training or into Employment. Can I receive any financial support whilst I am studying? Financial support is available and depends on the type of qualification you are studying and whether you are a full time or a part time learner. The Education Maintainance Allowance (EMA) scheme enables eligible learners to receive up to ?30 per week for studying at College, as well as bonus payments of ?100. The Adult Learning Grant (ALG) scheme enables eligible learners (aged 19 or over) to receive up to ?30 per week for studying at College. College Learner Support Funds (LSF) are available and can provide financial support for eligible learners. Payments can be made towards travel to and from College, registered childcare, fee remission and help with course-related costs.
