Certificate in Horticulture Skills Level 1 Programme Code: XNSLN Awarding Body: NPTC Related Programme Areas: HORTICULTURE GARDENING CROP PRODUCTION Who is the programme for? This programme is suitable for school leavlers, unemployed or retired people and also those who have a less academic background. Individuals with learning difficulties can also achieve this qualification as tutor support is always available. What will I study? You will study four core units: * Prepare grounds for seeding or planting * Plant container grown sugjects * Apply organic mulch to a bed or border * Water a bed, border or area of plants in containers, using hand-held equipment You will also study eight other optional units. Entry to the Programme? How is it assessed? Assessment is by practical demonstrations along with tutor explanations and tutor group and individual performance. No formal exams or assignments are needed. Project work can be used as an enjoyable and relaxed method of learning and assessment. Future prospects? With this qualification you could progress onto an NVQ Level 1 or 2. Possible career routes would include working in parks and gardens, for a local authority, a garden centre or other provider of gardening services. When will the programme start? Normally, September is the main time to start the programme but it can commence at any time of year with your agreement. How long will it take? The recommended period of time to achieve this qualification is 210 hours. Days and times can be flexible to a degree, but it is usually studied one day per week over 42 weeks. What about the Money? If you are under 19 on 31 August 2009 you will not have to pay tuition or registratin fees. If you re over 19 years of age How do I apply?
