CCN 1 Core Gas Safety (ACS) Assessment Business Services Qualification CCN1 (ACS) Core Gas Safety Attendance The assessment will take two working days Duration 2 days Description of the Course Day 1: Will be taken up by theory assessments. Day 2: Will be the practical assessment tasks listed below. Course content Practical Tasks you will undertake Test for soundness on both Low & Medium pressure installations ? with gas meter and appliances fitted ? with no gas meter and no gas appliances fitted ? identify, Locate and repair gas escapes Installation of pipe work and fittings plus pipe sizing ? Identify the relevant standards in relation to pipe work; passing through walls, supports and fixings, position in relation to other services ? Connection and disconnection, cross bonding ? Install copper and mild steel pipe (including tong screw) Use temporary continuity bond ? Purge an installation IChecking and/or setting meter regulators ? Check standing and working pressures at the meter and explain the correct procedures to be taken if incorrect ? Checking and setting appliance burner pressures and gas rates ? Check and set burner pressures and gas rates in accordance with appliance manufacturers instructions IRe-establish existing gas supply and relight ? Re-establish an existing gas supply by completing visual inspection of the system, purging, relighting appliances and checking for spillage at any open flued appliances ? Characteristics of combustion ? Identify visual signs of complete and incomplete combustion due to ? faults from the lack of primary air, the condition of the burner and its components IIdentification of unsafe situations ? Emergency notices and warning Labels ? Identify and classify unsafe situations as At Risk or Immediately ? Dangerous ? Explain gas emergency actions and procedures IEmergency notices and warning labels ? Select the appropriate warning labels or notices to a selection of unsafe situations Ventilation ? Appropriate air vents/bricks ? Identify adequate or inadequate pre-selected air vents/bricks for specified situations ? Calculate ventilation requirements for specified situations and select IThe operation and checking of appliance gas safety devices and controls ? Identify and explain the operation of gas laps, regulators, relay valves, cooker Lid safety shut off valves, vitiation sensing devices, bimetal strips, thermo-electric valves, liquid expansion valves, thermostats (mechanical and electrical), solenoid valves and multi- functional controls ? Identify any controls not operating correctly IFlue testing the installation of open, balanced and fan assisted flue assemblies ? Calculate ventilation requirements for specified situations and select Identify whether a flue has been installed correctly to BS 5440 Part 1 (Installation of flues and ventilation for gas appliances of rated input not exceeding 70kW) ? Check for correct termination, support, construction, installation, condition, fire precautions and flue performance ? Visually inspect balanced and fan assisted flues to check for correct flue assembly, flue bends and joints, termination and ventilation requirements for vertex-sol-ver flue systems ? Visually inspect brick built and pre-cast flue systems and identify any defects ? Carry out a flue flow test and a spillage test and correctly interpret the results, complete the installation of balanced fan assisted flue assemblies ? Identify correct/incorrect plastic flue joints Identify correct/incorrect flue liner assemblies Assessment Please bring 2 passport size photographs with you. Who is the course for? The assessment is for existing gas professionals or candidates who have undergone specialist training to gain the Core Gas Safety (CCN1) qualification. Entry requirements Candidates must already hold CCN1 or have undergone specialist gas training such as the Guild of Gas Fitters (for new entrants) and be able to provide evidence of on site training.
