Course Description

CACHE Foundation Award Childcare This one year course provides an introduction to working with young children and includes work placement in the third term. It helps develop basic skills in childcare, education and play-work and offers an opportunity to experience working in an early years setting. You will learn about the care of children, play and practical activities, growth and development, food and nutrition and health and safety. You will also be able to improve your literacy, numeracy, and IT skills. The Foundation Award in Caring for Children is awarded through CACHE and is preparation for further study. An interview is required for this course. Entry Requirements: 12 points at GCSE Level D-G to include English and Maths and two other subjects. An interest in working with children. An individual and group interview is required. Inital assessment at E3 Literacy and Numeracy Language assessment (if appropariate at E3) School or employer reference Attendance: Full Time One year full time. Minimum 88% attendance is required. Course Content: Areas studied include: Care of children, Play and Practical Activities, Human Growth and Development, Food and Nutrition, and Health and Safety Practices in Home and Group Settings. Up to 15 days practical work is undertaken in a child care setting during the third term. Assessment: Assessment is through assignment work and multiple question paper. Outcomes: Successful achievement of the Foundation Award with Merit or Distinction can lead to further study on the Level 2 Diploma in Child Care and Education (2009). Qualification: CACHE Level 1 Foundation Award in Caring for Children.
