Cache Entry Level in Childcare GCSE Points: E1 - 10, E2 - 12, E3 - 14 What will I study? You will learn important practical skills as well as increasing your knowledge of how young children develop. There will also be sessions on pregnancy and parenting skills and child health. What will I learn? You will learn through classroom discussion and exercises or activities that you are asked to do. You may be asked to work on your own, in pairs or in a group - therefore it is important that you are willing to get involved and contribute ideas to the sessions. You will also spend time in a local nursery each week giving you the chance to develop the confidence and people skills you will require for working in a real childcare setting. How will I be assessed? Over the 2-year course you will study 3 units. Each one will have 3 pieces of assessment. The assessment tasks will be varied and may include - making a poster, writing a leaflet, creating a chart, writing a report etc. There are no examinations but your work will be assessed at Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 depending on your progress. Will there be any homework? Yes! Although the assessments will be carried out in class time, you will be asked to bring in to each session any useful and relevant information which will help expand your knowledge and understanding. How long will the course take? Half or one day a week for two years or as agreed with your school. Where can this course lead me when I finish school? This qualification could help your application to full time childcare or Health and Social carer courses at the College or it could be used to help you gain an apprenticeship place on a NVQ training scheme. In Year 2, an individual interview can be arranged to discuss your options.
