Course Description

Purpose This two-day workshop aims to build the confidence and help transfer the technical skills of qualified accountants: ?to work effectively in field-based finance roles; or ?to provide effective remote support to field-based teams and partners. Target Audience We have specially designed the FM4 course for: ?qualified accountants who do not currently have experience of working in the international humanitarian aid and development sector, and ?Head Office-based finance staff who need to build an understanding of what it is like to work in the field in developing countries. Important note: This course is not suitable for finance staff already working in the NGO sector in the developing world. Course Content The balance of course content depends on the interests and training needs of course participants. (See below for the Programme Guide). The core components will include: ?An overview of the NGO sector and challenges of the working environment ?Organisational accounting challenges, including foreign exchange, field vs. Head Office transactions and managing core costs ?Field accounting challenges including accounting records, managing cash and donor accountability ?Internal control challenges in the field ?The impact of culture on financial management ?Tips on supporting local partners
