Course Description

Course Level Description This course is designed to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to enhance their prospects in a highly competitive and ever changing labour market. It is linked into the National Vocational Qualifications and as such is nationally recognised both by employers and a number of professional organisations. Course Length The course consists of four semesters, over two years. Attendance one full day (9.00am 5.00pm), half day/evening (2.00pm 0.00pm). (2x Evenings 6.00pm - 9.00pm) What will I study? The Higher National Certificate in Building Studies comprises of a number of core option modules which lead to a General Construction qualification. There are 6 core modules, 4 option modules (chosen via the College to suit demand), taken over four semesters. Mandatory Core Modules: Design Principles and Application Science & Materials Analytics Methods Management, Principles & Application Group Project Health, Safety & Welfare Option Modules: (may vary) Technology A Technology B Contract Procedures Site Surveying Procedures How will I learn? An exciting, varied and challenging approach to learning is adopted throughout the course, including directed research linked to projects, practical skill based sessions, seminars, lectures and tutorials. Our ain is to assist you in your learning and for you to acquire learning skills that will stand you in good stead for the future. How will I be assessed? A variety of means of assessment are used including written assignments, seminars and presentations. Where could it lead? Students can progress to Degree level courses.
