BTEC National Certificate in Children's Care, Learning and Development Is this the right course for me? Do you want to work with children? Would you like to study Child Development and Child Care? Would you like the opportunity to gain experience in a range of work placements? Do you want to meet other people and get yourself a nationally recognised qualification at Level 3? If you can answer yes to all the above then this is the course for you. This new course is now the equivalent of 3 A levels and contains a number of units to be studied over two years. What do I need to join the course? A full GNVQ Intermediate at merit or above plus GCSE English or 5 GCSE passes at Grade C or above or equivalent, one of which must include GCSE English. (Maths, Science would also be essential if you want to consider teacher trainingUniversity at some stage in the future) and a successful interview. What will I be doing? The Edexcel Level 3 BTEC National Certificate in Children's Care, Learning and Development consists of 7 core units plus specialist units that provide for a combined total of 720 guided learning hours (GLH) for the completed qualification. The core units are: ? Positive Relationships for Childrens Care, Learning and Development ? Positive Environments for Childrens Care, Learning and Development ? Promoting Childrens Development ? Reflecting on and Developing Practice for Children aged 0-8** ? Safeguarding Children ? Promoting Childrens Rights ? Childrens Learning Activities and Play You have the option of studying other units such as: ? Supporting Childrens Literacy Skills ? Psychological Perspectives on Childrens Behaviour ? Research Methodology for Childrens Care, Learning and Development ? Combined Science for the Early Years Practitioner: Life Processes and Living Things ? Modern Beliefs and Religions for the Early Years Practitioner ? The Development and Care of Babies and Children under three years ? Independent Learning in Childrens Care, Learning and Development ? Academic Literacy in the Childrens Care, Learning and Development Sector How long will the course last and what patterns of attendance are available? The Certificate is a two year full-time course. Individual units can be studied to gain Certificates of Achievement. What will I achieve? The BTEC National Certificate will equip you with a nationally recognised qualification in Nursery Nursing at equivalent Level 3 and is a licence to practice. This will enable you to apply for a range of employment opportunities such as: ? Nursery Nurses working within a school environment ? Learning Support Assistants ? Playworkers ? Children's representatives for overseas holiday companies ? Play therapists within a hospital environment ? Working alongside health visitors and provide opportunities to apply for university courses and teacher training (providing you have relevant qualifications.) And the future? The BTEC National Certificate qualifications in Childrens Care Learning and Development are recognised for entry purposes to a range of higher education courses:- leading to professional qualifications in teacher training, nursing, social administration and social science. It will also enable you to apply for posts within these services. (If you are hoping to apply for a degree course leading to qualified primary school teacher status it is advisable to have studied a National Curriculum subject at A Level.) Key Skills Through your studies you will be given the opportunity to improve and receive certification of your Key Skills in Communication, Application of Number and Information Technology. In many cases you will also be able to achieve further qualifications in Problem Solving, Improve Own Learning and Performance as well as Working with Others. All key skills are nationally recognised qualifications to improve not only your employability skills but also assist your university application by attracting additional UCAS points.
