Course Description

BTEC National Award in Animal Management (Animal Rehabilitation) Who is the course for? This course is ideal if you are interested in wildlife rehabilitation. It is intended for individuals who want a direct route into employment in the animal care industry, or for those who already have a career in animal management and wish to gain a qualification. Students are introduced to a range of animal care settings. What will I study on the course? You will have the opportunity to study a variety of both practical and business units. You will complete a total of six units, to include: ? Animal health ? Animal behaviour ? Practical animal handling & management ? Business management ? Wildlife rehabilitation & management ? Animal nursing. The second year of study is primarily lent to focusing on wildlife rehabilitation and management. The studies help to develop practical core skills as well as enhancing the understanding of the needs, biology and behaviour of a wide range of domestic, and wild animal species. What is special about studying at Bridgwater College? The College houses its own extensive animal collections at each of the Centres. What other skills will I acquire? You will have the opportunity to complete key skills qualifications in the following areas: ? Communication ? Information technology ? Numeracy. How will I be assessed? This course is subject to both external and internal assessment. External assessment will cover one unit in Business Management. Internal assessment will be based on coursework - vocational and practical (assignments, tests, presentations etc.) How long is the course? This course is offered on a part-time basis over two years completed over two days per week. What can I do on completion of this course? After you have successfully completed this programme, you can seek employment at supervisory level within the animal rehabilitation sector e.g. veterinary nursing, animal sanctuaries, kennels & catteries and rehabilitation centres. You might also consider progressing to the Certificate of Higher Education or Foundation Degree in Animal Science available at our Cannington Centre.
