Course Description

BTEC Introductory Diploma in Land and Environment: Game and Wildlife This one-year, Level 1 course will, in a very practical way, introduce students to the game and wildlife industry. Students will cover a wide range of subject areas with the focus on: Gamekeeping Deer management Estate and habitat skills Much of the work will be practical, particularly using the College's excellent on-site facilities, but the course will also seek to raise the academic achievement of students through structured learning support. Additional skills and qualifications When your learning agreement is discussed with your tutor early in the first term, you will be advised of extra skills and qualifications which are built into the course programme. These secondary learning goals are selected on the basis of their importance to the industry/career in which you are interested. They will contribute to your employability and will enhance your CV. Qualification equivalence The course is equivalent to an entry level qualification, Level 1. Employment and career prospects Students may progress to further game and wildlife courses, e.g. First Diploma in Game and Wildlife or the modern apprenticeship in Gamekeeping. Employment may be possible for exceptional students as an under/assistant keeper or a game farm assistant. Preferred entry requirements This course is suitable for learners aged 16-19, who wish to follow a vocationally-related course, or may have some qualifications at entry-level or who have limited achievement of GCSE grades D to G. Students may be accepted directly after leaving school. Previous relevant experience is not essential, but candidates must demonstrate a strong interest in game and wildlife subjects and a determination to undertake coursework.
