BTEC Introductory Diploma in Health and Social Care (Level 1) Course Code: Not known Duration: 36 weeks, from September to July What makes this course special? This course will help you develop your personal skills and ability. It provides a foundation for your learning, and is designed to give you the study skills and confidence you will need to study further. It will also help you understand the essential basics of working in the Health and Social Care Sector. All our teachers have experience in the Health and Social Care area and are good at helping students understand the important issues. What are the entry requirements? You must be working at Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy. Suitable references. All learners must complete a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) police check. How long does it last? The course lasts for 36 weeks September to July. You will be in class 3-4 days a week including a half-day placement in a Care setting. You will have regular tutorials with your course tutor and will also be expected to study on your own initiative. What will I study? You will study the following units: Unit 1: Starting work in Health and Social Care Unit 2: Working in Health and Social Care Unit 3: Developing Skills in Health and Social Care Unit 4: Personal Effectiveness Unit 5: Social Responsibility at Work Unit 7: Looking after Children Unit 8: Images of people Unit 9: Health in the Environment Work Placement Key Skills: Communications How will I be assessed? There are no exams. You will be assessed on the quality of each unit assignment. You will be awarded an overall grade on all units achieved. Will this course lead to a qualification? The course is a Level 1 qualification that is equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grades D-G. After successfully completing this course, you can go onto a training scheme or study on Level 2 courses here at Yorkshire Coast College. You will also achieve Key Skills qualifications in Communications. What equipment will I need to buy? You will need folders, pens and plastic sleeves to keep your work safe. These are available in the LRC at College. You will also need to purchase one Core Text Book. How much are the course fees? There is usually no charge for those aged 16-18. Mature learners may qualify for a reduced fee subject to status, please ask Admissions for further details.
