Course Description

This programme is designed to give you a thorough grounding in the principles and practice of real estate management. The Foundation Year provides the academic skills necessary to study at degree level. It offers a direct route to all our bachelor’s degree awards. It will provide you with a firm foundation for a rewarding career in the property and construction industries. This programme is delivered by supported online learning which means you don’t need to travel to college or university and you can study at work or at home, at weekends and in the evening as best suits your lifestyle.

This programme is primarily designed for people who wish to further their career with a degree but who do not have the academic qualifications for entry onto our other BSc programmes delivered without a Foundation Year. This programme is designed for existing and aspiring urban real estate practitioners, both those who want to study full time and those who want to work whilst studying. The programme provides the founding base of knowledge for those looking to go on to practice in the management and valuation of commercial real estate and also commercial real estate agency. It is also suited to those looking to work in the real estate development sector. The programme is suitable for both those looking to change career direction and also school/college leavers looking to pursue a career in real estate.

The Foundation Year element of the programme will allow you to develop both personally and professionally and enhance your academic skills to ensure that these are of a sufficient standard to be able to study a BSc (Hons) programme. At the same time, it will give you a broad knowledge and understanding of the built environment topics that you will be studying at degree level later. Those working in the built environment will be able to make links between these topics and the work done by their employer; those not working in the built environment will benefit from good insight into the work they hope to be doing soon.

The programme as a whole is structured to deliver a fully rounded skill set for those wishing to practise in these sectors of real estate and encompasses commercial property management, valuation, property economics, property development and planning. Gaining this degree will enrich your knowledge of this vital area of modern commerce and industry and strengthen your CV.

The programme as a whole provides the academic underpinning necessary to prepare you to seek membership of professional bodies including RICS and CABE.
