A maximum of 20 tariff points will be counted from Key Skills BTEC National Diploma MPP OCR National Extended Diploma (18 Units) P2 Irish Leaving Certificate CCCC Scottish Highers 190 - 240 points International Baccalaureate 24 points Course Content This course combines the art and science of professional horticulture with its application though education and research in the particular social and scientific context of horticultural therapy. The relationship between plants, gardens and society is developed, through exploration of the ways in which plants, and horticultural project work, contributes to health and well being. Students develop their understanding of the principles and practices of horticulture by integration with therapeutic projects. The course has specific modules relating to Therapy which are developed over three years and culminate in a self managed research project This programme would suit those students who enjoy working with plants and people and wish to develop both horticultural and therapy related skills. Industrial Placements Writtle has an extensive range of placements on offer and students are given comprehensive advice and support to ensure that they find a suitable placement. The majority of the placements are in paid employment but some students may choose to work for voluntary agencies. The industrial placement is optional on BSc programmes, but many students find that this is an invaluable experience.
