A maximum of 20 tariff points will be counted from Key Skills BTEC National Diploma MPP OCR National Extended Diploma (18 Units) P2 Irish Leaving Certificate CCCC Scottish Highers 190 - 240 points International Baccalaureate 24 points Course Content This unique course gives students of Horticulture an opportunity to specialise in Arboriculture and the general management of trees. This horticultural course develops a specialist understanding of the principles underpinning tree management techniques. These techniques can be applied to tree collections in botanic gardens, urban areas, public parks as well as private gardens. The management of trees in an economic, social, ecological and technical context is developed throughout the course. Students will become innovative and creative in the management of trees, their environment and related areas. The course will consider the environmental impact and sustainability of arboriculture practice and tree management. It will also provide students who can think critically and who can analyse complex tree management operations and make suggestions for improvements and changes. Towards the end of the course students will develop awareness of research methodologies and a capacity to design and complete a significant individual investigative project related to Tree Management. Industrial Placements Writtle has an extensive range of placements on offer and students are given comprehensive advice and support to ensure that they find a suitable placement. The majority of the placements are in paid employment but some students may choose to work for voluntary agencies. The industrial placement is optional on BSc programmes, but many students find that this is an invaluable experience.
