A maximum of 20 tariff points will be counted from Key Skills BTEC National Diploma MPP OCR National Extended Diploma (18 Units) P2 Irish Leaving Certificate CCCC Scottish Highers 190 - 240 points International Baccalaureate 24 points Course Content This course enables horticultural students to specialise in the study of plant diversity and plant management. The course explores the specific cultivation requirements of plant communities by relating cultivated plants to their natural environments. The course includes, the systematic classification of plants, plant ecology, plant distribution, production and cultivation techniques as well as the study of the many and varied situations where plants are grown. The course also considers the importance of plant collections such as those in botanic gardens and gardens open to the public, and the commercialization of plant species to society. In the final year student will undertake an independent investigation related to Horticultural Plantsmanship Industrial Placements Writtle has an extensive range of placements on offer and students are given comprehensive advice and support to ensure that they find a suitable placement. The majority of the placements are in paid employment but some students may choose to work for voluntary agencies. The industrial placement is optional on BSc programmes, but many students find that this is an invaluable experience.
