BSc (Hons) Equine Science (Reproduction and Breeding) UCAS Code D322 Option: REP Duration&Mode 3 years FT Typical Offer: BTEC National Diploma MPP OCR National Extended Diploma (18 Units) P2 Irish Leaving Certificate CCCC Scottish Highers 190 - 240 points International Baccalaureate 24 points Preferred Subjects Biology or other science to A2 level Postgraduate Qualifications Students on this course will be given the opportunity to progress to a relevant Masters programme in the Postgraduate School. Course Content These science based degree programmes allow students to develop a sound understanding and in-depth knowledge of the essential principles of equine science relevant to the needs of the equine sector. These degrees encourage students to develop and demonstrate appropriate intellectual and research skills. They will enable graduates to demonstrate an understanding of the underlying principles associated with equine function and the concepts and ideas that are at the forefront of the discipline; communicate with general public; apply scientific principles and an understanding of the appropriate investigative methods associated with research to the equine industry, demonstrate competence in technical and relevant practical skills and be life long learners who can positively contribute to the equine industry. The core components of the course are mammalian anatomy and physiology, equine biomechanics, equine nutrition, physiology, health management and structural development. In addition to these core equine science modules, students will specialise in Reproduction and Breeding by studying modules in Reproduction and genetics, Equine Reproductive Physiology, Equine breeding Systems and Advances in Stud Technology. Students will also follow a programme of study which develops their awareness of the professional and work skills required to work in the equine sector and enhances their own leaning and analytical abilities.
