Biology - GCSE What are the main features of this course? This is a one year course offered by the OCR. It covers topics such as :- You and your genes Keeping healthy Life on earth Homeostasis Growth and development Brain and mind Further biology. This includes food chains, photosynthesis, nutrition, new technology , respiration, ciculation and the skeleton Hours of Lessons per Week :3.7 Indicative Group Size : 20 How is the course assessed? Students are required to take three written examinations. Two exams consist of structured questions and lasts 40 minutes each. These can be entered at foundation or higher levels. The third paper is based on information which is given to you before the exam and topics from 'further biology' part of the syllabus You are also required to carry out a practical investigation which is marked by your teacher Who should study this course? Students must fulfil the basic requirements of a GCSE timetable including GCSE English Language grade D. They will also need a grade D (at least) in Science and Additional Science or at least a grade D in the appropriate separate Science Where can I go next? Students can progress to a higher level of study such as an A level Biology or GNVQ Advanced level course in Science. If you do not wish to continue in education it could be possible to find employment in nursing, veterinary nursing and many aspects of laboratory work in hospitals, industry and schools.
