Basic Primatology Diploma (Study level 2)This course equips the student with a basic grounding in primatology. It is ideal for anyone wanting to start a career with primates, or those with just a keen interest. It covers primate taxonomy, behaviour and appearance. The basic primatology diploma comprises the following 6 modules: 1. What is a primate?This will discuss the definition of a primate, which shared characteristics primates possess and determines whether a primate is an ape, monkey or prosimian. 2. ApesThis module looks at the difference between greater apes and lesser apes and examines the differences between apes and monkeys.3. Old World MonkeysThis module examines the difference between old world and new world monkeys, why this division exists and what characteristics old world monkeys share with each other.4. New World MonkeysThis briefly recaps the difference between old world and new world monkeys and examines which primates are new world monkeys and the characteristics they share.5. ProsimiansThis module looks at prosimians and explains why they are so different from other primates. 6. TaxonomyThis last module looks at the complications of taxonomy and examines the taxonomic categorisations of primates.Course information: There are three pass levels. A pass, a credit and a distinction. A pass level requires a mark of 50% credit 65% and a distinction requires a mark of 85%.
