Course Description

BA (Hons) Business and Management generic route is designed to provide an excellent all round management education. It suits best those who wish to gain an in-depth understanding of management theories and practice. In essence, the degree emphasises abilities to organise, monitor, control and develop best practice in the management of organisations whilst providing a thorough understanding of the business environment. Throughout the Business and Management programme you develop both academic knowledge and practical skills. You will also have the opportunity to choose optional modules to suit your own personal interests. This programme produces managers capable of managing effectively across the broad range of disciplines required in today s rapidly changing business environment. Building on a sound base of training in the essentials of business law, accounting and the world economy you gain a firm grounding in key management skills and techniques found in financial, strategic and knowledge management. Teaching and Assessment All business programme modules are delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops. You are encouraged to develop as an independent learner, supported by a variety of facilities including extensive library provision, online databases, CD-ROM technology and full Internet access. Group work is also a key aspect of teaching and learning in the Business School. Assessment is varied, and usually includes coursework. Specific methods will include reports, case studies, presentations, essays, phase tests and time-constrained assessments. Career Opportunities Business and Management Studies graduates are well placed to pursue successful careers in a wide range of areas. You will be equipped to make an immediate contribution in a broad range of production and service management positions, giving a wide choice of career options and ensuring rapid integration and career progression. Graduates have taken positions as trainee managers and administrators in all areas of business, and as civil servants and teachers. The degree forms a sound basis for both management training and continuous professional development programmes. A number of students advance to undertake a Masters qualification. Entry Requirements

Our typical offer will be 260 points from a minimum of 2 A levels/AVCEs or equivalent (e.g. 1 x AVCE double award). We accept a maximum of 20 points from Level 3 Key Skills.
