BA (HONS) APPLIED YOUTH & COMMUNITY WORK Next start date(s) Sep Course Location Quarles Is this course for me? If you are a qualified and experienced Youth and Community Worker and wish to further your career along with your academic achievement then this is the course for you. Our course offers progression to Honours Degree level and is validated by the Open University. You will undertake 3 core modules, including a dissertation, which focus on the knowledge, skills and value base of professional practice, emphasising the role of a Senior WorkerManager. This will be followed by 3 option-modules, which cover a range of contemporary issues and practical skills. What will I study? You will be studying on a course that has been designed to meet the needs of qualified and experienced workers and reflects the ever-changing role of Youth and Community Workers in relation to social, political and organisational developments, emphasising the role of the Senior WorkerManager. In choosing the full time route you can complete your degree in 2 semesters (12 months) attending college for 1 day per week, coupled with self-directed study and research. Our course has a modular structure based on a Credit Accumulation and Transfer System and the option-modules will be decided with you and your fellow students, as a group, along with your Tutors. These are the compulsory subjects: The core modules you will study are: Youth and Community Studies Dissertation Community Work: Power and Politics Youth in a Changing Society. You will also complete three of the following option modules, at least 1 from each menu: Contemporary Issues in Youth and Community Work Emerging Issues in Youth Cultures Health Education in Action Young People: Deviance, Surveillance and Social Control Citizenship, Political Participation and the Democratic Process Civic Association and Political Education in a Changing Society. Practical Skills for Youth and Community Work: Supervision Skills for Youth and Community Workers Trainer Training for Youth and Community Workers Managing Organisations, Managing Change The Challenge of Supporting and Responding to Young People with Developmental Needs. What are the entry requirements? You will need to have a Diploma in Higher Education (or equivalent) ideally in Youth and Community Work, and have experience in Youth and Community Work practice. What can I do next? Passing this degree will give the option to apply for a Masters Degree. What employment does this relate to? Success in this course will enhance your abilities to further your career in Youth and Community Work to Senior Worker and Management level. How will I be assessed? Assessment is continuous and is in a variety of ways, which will include written assignments, presentations and your dissertation. You will be allocated an individual Tutor for your dissertation, to offer support and guidance along with access to tutorials with your module Tutors.
