Health and social care Course: Award in Helping Skills (QCF) Level 2 Code: HSC0001E Duration: 17 Weeks Location: Berwick Campus Start Date: 12th January 2010 Interview Required: Yes Who is the course for? This course is for people wishing to improve their essential, transferable advanced communication skills. Do I need any formal qualifications? There are no previous qualifications required but it would be helpful to have completed the Interpersonal Skills Award. If not, candidates must have the potential to achieve the standard specified in the qualification and must produce written evidence of using interpersonal skills in the workplace or from other source. Candidates must be aged 18 or over. What will I study on the course? There are 3 mandatory units: Unit 01- Applying Counselling Skills, Unit 02- Evaluate and Develop Own Work,Unit 03- Counselling Skills in Context. Candidates must successfully complete all 3 units. How is the course organised? The course is run over 13 sessions 12 sessions lasting 3 hours and 1 session lasting 4 hours. Attendance can be either daytime or evening. How will my progress be assessed? Assessment requirements: An internally assessed portfolio, Externally set and assessed short answer question paper. Can I gain any extra qualifications while on the course? The course does not involve any additional work or extra qualifications, so you may be able to complement it with one of a wide range of courses offered at the College. What final qualification will I get if I am successful? NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills. What can I do after completing this course? Successful completion will enable you to apply for the Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills and Theory, Completion of level 3 may allow you to progress onto the level 4 Diploma in Counselling. Can I receive any financial support whilst I am studying? Financial support is available and depends on the type of qualification you are studying and whether you are a full time or a part time learner. The Education Maintainance Allowance (EMA) scheme enables eligible learners to receive up to ?30 per week for studying at College, as well as bonus payments of ?100. The Adult Learning Grant (ALG) scheme enables eligible learners (aged 19 or over) to receive up to ?30 per week for studying at College. College Learner Support Funds (LSF) are available and can provide financial support for eligible learners. Payments can be made towards travel to and from College, registered childcare, fee remission and help with course-related costs.
