Course Description

Overview Assertiveness is not just about asserting yourself (aggressive people can do that). It's about how you interact with others to be a better manager, colleague, team member, specialist and so on. Assertiveness is at the heat of our relationships with ourselves and with others. It enables us to use behaviours that we and other people value. It enables your technical skills to come to the fore because they are supported by excellent interpersonal skills. Who Should Attend? Everyone who wants to develop their confidence and interpersonal skills. Course Objectives The learning environment is safe, supportive, relaxed and fun. There are numerous, voluntary small group exercises to practice skills, plenty of time to reflect on what you have learned and how you will implement it using your course workbook as a valuable source of post-course reference. Focus The importance of assertiveness as a life skill. The difference between aggressive, submissive, passive-aggressive and assertive behaviour. How you are perceived by others. Body language and assertiveness. The four cornerstones of assertiveness. The two main ways information enters your brain and the effects of each on how you react to others. Trigger behaviours from other people and the effect they have on you. Understanding what makes you behave the way you do. Distinguishing between learned responses and pre-programmed responses. The behaviour ice berg, rights, paradigms and self esteem. How to reprogram your thinking quickly and easily. Practical assertive techniques; how and when to use them. Self-defense against manipulators. Using assertiveness to improve professional and personal relationships. The big obstacle to implementation and how you can overcome it.
