Course Description

You will explore key scientific issues including, health, infectious diseases, medical ethics, reproductive choices, evolution as well as radiation, transportation issues, the Universe and our place in it. The learning will involve considerable thought and argument, as well as data analysis and examination of the ideas of science. We will have discussions on ethical issues in science which affect the way we live and work. The coursework study is designed to encourage you to explore and critically evaluate issues, the science behind them and what study tells us not only about science, but also about society. ENTRY RECOMMENDATIONS: This course is available as an additional study option to upper 6th students within the Core Studies programme. You will need to have a good science GCSE background if you are not studying any sciences at AS level. This is a good subject to study alongside social sciences, Geography and Environmental Studies. ASSESSMENT: One exam and coursework. PROGRESSION: A very good support and complement to social sciences, geography and environmental studies.
