Course Level: Level 3 Entry Requirements: 5 GCSEs at grade C or above including Mathematics and English, and a minimum average points score of 5.2. Course Description: This subject, studied at AS Level only, helps students to develop their skills of analysis, critical reasoning and argument and students will analyse arguments, and flaws and assumptions in arguments, and will evaluate and develop arguments. Course Content: ? Argument Analysis ? Flaws and Assumptions in Arguments ? The Language of Arguments ? Evaluating Arguments and Explanations ? Developing your own Arguments Year 1-AS Level One Unit (2870) with two components. Component 01 This component has two sections Section A consists of 16 multiple choice questions. Section B presents short texts and you will answer a series of structured questions. Component 02 This component has two sections Section A - You are asked to write a reasoned case using evidence provided. Section B - You are asked to write a critical evaluation of an argument. Examination No 3821 Assessment is through two 1? hour exam papers. Component 01-2 sections Section A consists of 16 multiple choice questions. Candidates should attempt all questions. Section B has 12 structured questions based on two stimulus passages. Candidates should attempt all questions. Component 02-2 sections Section A has one essay-type question on credibility. Section B has two essay-type questions on evaluating arguments. Candidates should attempt all questions. Resits Candidates can resit modules in the January and June examination series during the course, with the highest mark counting towards the qualification.
