French AS/A Level Who is the course for? This course is for students with an interest in languages, French culture and society and for those pursuing a career where a second language would be either essential or desirable. What is the course about? On this course you will investigate topics that relate to the country of France; its society, contemporary issues and culture, as well as the structure and grammar of the French language. Will I need anything else? A dictionary and grammar book. How long & often do I attend? You will attend for three lessons a week. You must meet the college attendance targets in order to progress. How will I be assessed? Assessment is by oral examination, and a written paper covering listening, reading and writing. What opportunities will this lead to? You could progress to a BA Hons degree in French, often in combination with Business, Law, Politics or English. Following this you could enter employment as a translator, interpreter, teacher or bilingual Personal Assistant. A foreign language is also an advantage in other jobs such as publishing, the media, the Civil and Diplomatic Service and the travel and tourism industry.
