This course has finished ? Check more dates Course outline What is the course about? To give a thorough, basic introduction to beginners in the art of Aromatherapy in a safe environment. What topics will we cover? - What is Aromatherapy History of Aromatherapy - Essential oils, guidelines of use, safety and contraindications - Buying and storage of essential oils and carrier oils - Basic massage with oils. By the end of this course you should be able to: - Recognise some benefits of essential oils - Gain an insight into how aromatherapy benefits the individual in a holistic way - Recognise and follow the safety guidelines when using essential oils and performing massage - Give an aromatherapy massage to either arms and hands, or neck and shoulders. What level is the course and do I need any particular skills? Introductory - no previous knowledge or experience necessary. Please note there are some contraindications to aromatherapy oils. These will be discussed on the course. You should be able to: Read simple sentences fluently including instructions and directions Express own feelings and statements of fact Be flexible in discussion making varying contributions Use imperial and metric measures PLEASE SEE THE PRE-BODYWORK CHECK LIST BELOW: The following list is to be used when undertaking a professional course in body work. We have strict guidelines to protect the health and safety of students in training whilst providing widest possible access. If you have suffered from any of the conditions listed, please check with a medical practitioner whether it is suitable for you to undertake a bodywork course and bring a referral letter from your doctor to your tutor, otherwise please do not participate in a bodywork classcourse. - Epilepsy - Diabetes - An untreated medical condition - Spinal injuries - A recent operation - Severe skin disorders - Severe mental illness - On medication - Cardiovascular disorders (high blood pressure, severe varicose veins, heart problems, thrombosis) - Bone or joint disorders (Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis) - Pregnancy (or post natal) - Endocrine disorders - Is there anything else we should know about your health before you enrol for a course? If there is, please let the Health & Movement Studies team know. If accepted onto a course, a student could be given alternative practical tasks and adjustments may be made where reasonable. However, a student could be asked to leave the course if any situation were to arise which could endanger the well being of that student, or any other student. It is, for instance, not suitable to work on another student, if you are taking medication that affects your concentration, or if you have uncontrolled fits which could cause danger to others during a relevant activity. How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class? Theory: - Lecture - Group discussions - Questions and answers Practical work: - Preparing your own oil blends - Identification of oils through smelling - Demonstration by tutor observation - Aromatherapy massages working in pairs. Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring? Please bring massage oil (e.g. grapeseed oil or sweet almond oil) and two large towels. You may wish to buy your own essential oils, books, videos, burners, etc. Advice on best books to buy is available from the tutor. Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol? No. What feedback will I get? You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. How will I be able to give my views on the course? Please complet
