Course Description

We are pleased to announce the following event to be held on Tuesday 15th February between 7-9pm at the Bromley Court Hotel, Bromley, Kent. We are privileged to have Mr Bruno E Gerber, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon speaking on the subject of Anterior Knee Pain and The Patello-Femoral Joint . The Event Anterior Knee Pain and The Patello-Femoral Joint This presentation gives an overview of patients presenting with symptoms such as anterior knee pain, patellar dislocations and effusions which point towards various patello-femoral conditions requiring specific surgical treatment. It will outline targeted investigation pathways which allow the speaker to draw treatment conclusions based on a precise diagnosis even if this requires surgery outside of prevailing treatment habits. The detailed assessment protocol for (for example) knee cap dislocations commences with a detailed clinical examination of the knee, hips and feet. Where indicated weight bearing x-rays, MRI, CT and in some cases parallaxis free long leg films may be necessary. The talk will discuss a number of corrective surgical procedures such as a reshaping Trochleoplasty or an Osteotomy below the hip to correct a local rotational fault which can leads to patellar dislocations. The speaker who has taken part in international research groups on cartilage repair has direct access to the whole spectrum of cartilage treatment techniques. It will also cover computer assisted placement of cruciate ligament grafts using purely biological fixation ? this treatment often allows commencement of rehabilitation within 24 hours and walking without crutches within the week - rapidly eliminating the anterior knee pain from PF-joint overload caused by antero-posterior instability and muscle weakness. Session 1 ? Anterior knee pain and the patella-femoral joint ? Pain within the patello-femoral joint ? Pain from elsewhere within in the knee ? Anterior knee pain from outside the knee Session 2 ? Treating the condition ? Corrections of patellar maltracking and deformities ? The PF-joint within knee replacement surgery ? Correction of other factors with an adverse effect on the PF-joint Date: Tuesday 15th February 2011 Registration: 6.30pm Course starts: 7:00pm prompt.
