Course Description

Animal Science, Production and Management The Centre for Equine and Animal Science is now the focus for research in this area. The main research activities of the Centre are: fertility, focused mainly on factors affecting semen quality and supported by the recent purchase of computer assisted sperm analysis equipment nutrition and animal health and performance, which centres around the importance of macro and micronutrients in maintaining health status and optimum performance and gut microbial function in both ruminant and equine species using in vitro techniques growth and performance in the dairy calf and cow in which one of our interests is the consequences of accelerated calf growth on lifetime performance, fertility and lameness meat quality in local breeds such as Red Poll cattle and Suffolk sheep the potential for application of ethnoveterinary medicine environmental effects on equine performance, competition analysis and complimentary therapies. This research is supported by an extensive network of contacts in the animal and equine industries, other educational and research institutions and has strong regional, national and international links.
