Animal Care - National Certificate Level 2 Is this the right course for me? Do you want to work with animals? Would you like to study animal welfare and care? Would you like the opportunity to gain experience in a range of work placements? Do you want to meet other people and get yourself a nationally recognised qualification at Level 2? If you can answer yes to all the above then this is the course for you. What do I need to join the course? 4 GCSEs grade D or above. What will I be doing? 10 units over 1 year Core Units ? Unit 231 Animal Health and Wellbeing ? Unit 232 Feeding and Watering Animals ? Unit 233 Work related experience in the Land-based sector ? Unit 234 Safe working with and around animals Optional Units ? Unit 235 Introduction to Animal Science ? Unit 236 Animal housing ? Unit 237 Animal behaviour and handling ? Unit 238 Small Business practices in the Land-based sector ? Unit 240 Kennel and cattery husbandry ? Unit 242 Introduction into pet retail operations ? Unit 243 Wildlife care and rehabilitation During your practical training you will have the opportunity to spend time at 3 different animal placements. There is also an opportunity for 2 weeks at a local veterinary surgery. How will my progress on the course be assessed? Each unit has an assignment attached to it. You will have to successfully complete a portfolio of evidence relating to your work placement experience. You will also be closely assessed in your placements and have to satisfactorily complete a Placement Evidence Checklist. What will I achieve? The Certificate Level 2 in Small Animal Care will give you a nationally recognised qualification in Animal Care. This will enable you to apply for a range of employment opportunities such as: ? Cattery ? Pet Store Assistant ? Wildlife Park Keeper ? Other related small animal care industries Key Skills Through your studies you will be given the opportunity to improve and receive certification of your Key Skills in Communication, Application of Number and Information Technology. In many cases you will also be able to achieve further qualifications in Problem Solving, Improve Own Learning and Performance as well as Working with Others. All key skills are nationally recognised qualifications to improve not only your employability skills but also assist your university application by attracting additional UCAS points. And the future? The Certificate Level 2 will give you the opportunity to work in a supervised capacity with a wide range of small animals in various industries. It also gives you the opportunity to apply for further training in: ? Advanced National Certificate in Animal Management Level 3 ? Veterinary Nursing ? Further training
