Advanced Diploma in Engineering Level 3 Course Code: DL0016MQ/1 Category: Engineering Centre: Beaufort Road Start Date: 07/09/2010 Times: Full-time Duration: 2 years Fee: ?250 Course fees are per year. This course is free for school leavers (Aged 16-18) Course Content: Throughout this course, learners will have the opportunity to develop an understanding of the importance of engineering in our rapidly evolving world. To achieve an Advanced Diploma in Engineering, learners must complete a series of separate stand alone qualifications that together combine to create the Advanced Diploma. Each candidate is required to complete nine Level 3 units, a Level 3 extended project qualification and a valid combination of approved qualifications as additional and specialist learning; 10 days of work experience in an engineering environment; Maths, English and ICT Functional Skills Level 2 are also required. When achieved, the Advanced Diploma is equivalent to 3.5 A Levels, grades (A-C) The majority of units are assessed by external examination set by the exam board, all other Units are graded via assignment based supervised assessments. Examples of units are: ? Investigating Engineering Business and the Environment ? Applications of Computer Aided Design ? Selection and Application of Engineering Materials ? Instrumentation and Control Engineering ? Maintaining Engineering Plant, Equipment and Systems ? Investigating Modern Manufacturing Techniques used in Engineering ? Innovative Design and Enterprise ? Mathematical Techniques and Applications for Engineers ? Principles and Application of Engineering Science Special Features: Various industrial visits and enrichment opportunities, work experience (a minimum of 10 working days), a combination of electrical/electronic and mechanical units, all candidates are expected to take an additional Mathematics unit in Year 2. To be awarded an Advanced Diploma, learners must have achieved level 2 Functional Skills in English, ICT and Mathematics (assessed by exams). Progression: The Advanced Diploma in Engineering enables learners to progress to Apprenticeships and employment within the engineering sector and related industries. The Advanced Diploma in Engineering will also provide opportunities for progression to a range of further and higher education courses, depending on grades achieved and line of study.
