Explore the scientific world further with NEC's distance learning GCSE course in Additional Science This distance learning course will help you gain a deeper understanding of scientific explanations and models and how they are applied to benefit the world we live in. It will also show you how scientists help us to understand ourselves as humans. This home study course will also help you to progress to further studies of science and is a good follow-on course from GCSE Science. NEC's Additional Science course is supplied with the textbook Twenty-First Century Science:GCSE Additional Science, published by Oxford University Press. Topics Include Homeostasis Chemical patterns Explaining motion Growth and development Chemicals of the natural environment Electric circuits Brain and mind Chemical synthesis The wave model of radiation Coursework This course consists of four exam papers or Assessment Units that in total account for 66.6% of the marks. Coursework (Assessment Unit 5) makes up the remaining 33.3% of your marks. Three Assessment Units focus on a particular modules: Assessment Unit 1: B4, C4, P4 Assessment Unit 2: B5, C5, P5 Assessment Unit 3: B6, C6, P6 Assessment Unit 4 focuses on ideas about science in context and draws on the content in the 9 course modules Assessment Unit 5 is assessed coursework.
